Evaluation of the Global Assembly published

June 26, 2023

The Evaluation Report of the Global Assembly on the Climate and Ecological Emergency was published earlier this month. The Global Assembly was the first citizens’ assembly that brought together 100 randomly selected citizens from around the globe. The Assembly deliberated on the topic ‘How can humanity address the climate and ecological crisis in a fair and effective way?’, producing the People’s Declaration for the Sustainable Future of Planet Earth, initially presented at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021. The Assembly can be seen as the first step in bringing the voices of ordinary citizens into the architecture of global governance.

The Evaluation Report was authored by a team of 16 academics, led by Professor Nicole Curato at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance, University of Canberra. The Report examines the extent to which the Global Assembly upheld principles of good practice in process design, deliberative experience, and impact.
